Policy Information for Parents

A. My Own Montessori is a licensed preschool for children ages 33 months-6 years old with a maximum number of students being 20 on any given day. 

B. The school will be open from the hours of 9:00 AM-2:00 PM Monday through Friday. It will provide a learning atmosphere for ages of 33 months through 6 years of age. 9:00 AM -11:30 AM will operate as a traditional Montessori classroom using the Montessori philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. From 11:30 AM-12:00 PM will be lunch for those students who choose to stay for the extended day. From the hours of 12:00 PM-2:00 PM a play-based enriched environment will be provided.

C1. The school is a Montessori school based on the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. Montessori is a method of education that is based on self-directed activity and hands-on learning. The key principles are independence, observation, following the child, correcting the child, prepared environment and absorbent mind. The Montessori Theory and foundation principles can be applied across all ages. The school will encompass activities centered around academic, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical learning. My Own Montessori is not affiliated with any specific religious or political beliefs. 
2.Parents may review the schools program on the schools website as well as arrange for an observation time during school hours. 

D. Conferences will be held twice a year in the months of November and March. There will be a written assessment that will cover a child's intellect, physical, social, and emotional development. 

E. All children will be required to submit a health care summary within 30 days of enrollment, as well as an immunization record at the same time of enrollment. 

F1. A child with any of the following conditions or behaviors is a sick child and must be excluded from school. If a child becomes sick while at school he or she will be isolated from other children in care and the parent will be called immediately. A sick child will be supervised at all times. Sick children to be excluded include:

I. Behavior Guidance Policies and Procedures: 

A. My Own Montessori will ensure that each child is surrounded daily with a positive role model who speaks, acts, and models kind and respectful behavior. 
B. The developmental level of the classroom will be set to meet the level of 33 months-6 years of age.
C. The teaching staff at My Own Montessori will strive in doing redirection to any arising conflict that children may have,
D. The children will be taught many skills and tools to handle social situations with their peers. The Montessori method strives for peace with friends.
E. My Own Montessori will ensure and protect the safety of all staff and children by staying up to date on all building inspections and visually inspecting the environment daily.
F. A child will receive a developmentally appropriate consequence following their unwanted behavior.

Persistent Unacceptable Behavior:

A. Teaching staff will observe and record behavior. Also recorded will be consequences given to child. 
B. If behavior is consistent there will be a written note, followed by a phone call. If behavior continues, there will be a sit-down with parents and involved staff and other professionals(when appropriate) to discuss a plan to help child be successful.

If the persistent unacceptable behavior continues: 


a. The teacher will record the child's unacceptable behavior on a daily behavior log which included the following information: Number of incidents of unacceptable behavior, time and description of behavior, and staff response to it. Parents will be informed that a daily behavior log is being kept and asked to review the log with the teacher on a daily basis whenever possible. 
b. A written behavior plan will be created and will include a description of the unacceptable behavior(s) observed, behavior guidance techniques that have been used by the staff, and outline of the next steps. The child's parent(s) may employee the services of a behavioral professional to consult on the matter at their discretion and their expense. When appropriate, the child's parent, staff persons and other professionals will be consulted when developing a plan. 
c. A conference will be called with the child's teacher and parent(s) to discuss the behavioral plan and next steps.
d. If the behavior continues or escalates, a second behavior plan will be developed, documented, and implemented.
e. If all options have been exhausted and the behavior continues, the parent(s) may be asked to withdraw their child from My Own Montessori.
f. If teaching staff believes that a child's repeated behavior may be a danger to themselves or others, My Own Montessori reserves the right to withdraw the child either temporarily or permanently. 

Prohibited Actions:

A. There will be no form of corporal punishment.
Which includes, but is not limited to:
Rough handling, shoving, hair pulling, shaking, slapping, kicking, biting, pinching, hitting, and spanking.
B. There will be no subjection of emotional stress.
Which includes, but is not limited to: Name calling, ostracism, shaming, derogatory remarks about child or family, using language that threatens, humiliates, or frightens the child.
C. No child will be separated from the group. 
D. No child will be punished for lapse in toilet training.
E. There will be no withholding of food, light, warmth, clothing, or medical care as a punishment for unacceptable behavior.
F. There will be no use of physical restraint other than to physically hold a child where containment is necessary to protect a child or others from harm.
G. There will be no use of mechanical restraints.
